WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is the induction into a “sleep like” state of consciousness in which a person is highly responsive to input such as suggestion or direction. Hypnosis can occur naturally in day-to-day life, called environmental hypnosis (day-dreaming).  Its use in therapy (hypnotherapy) is typically to resolve subconscious incongruencies or to allow modification of behavior by suggestion or use of the imagination. Learning to utilize the hypnotic state in a personalized method is an invaluable tool that can benefit anyone to reach their goals or enhance fulfillment in life.

IS HYPNOSIS DANGEROUS? WILL I GET STUCK?

No, hypnosis by its very nature is not dangerous. Hypnosis feels very calm and relaxing. All hypnosis is self-permitted and YOU ultimately have complete control in any hypnotic experience. Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness that many individuals go in and out of every day. Everyone experiences hypnosis at least twice per day: in the morning in-between sleeping & waking up and just before bed while drifting to sleep. Hypnosis is the transitional state between autonomic and executive function of the mind. While it always occurs when moving between being asleep and awake, hypnosis can also be a default adaptive stress response when executive function is exhausted or overstimulated. Depending on your specific subconscious functionality, during hypnosis you could become hyper-suggestible and apt to follow commands without questioning. Because of this it is important to be mindful and purposeful with the time you spend in hypnosis.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A HYPNOSIS SESSION?

A typical hypnosis session with Nirvana Hypnose will be split into two distinct portions. The first portion is cognitive where we will partake in deliberate discussion of the presenting issue. The purpose of the cognitive portion is to strategize a plan to reinforce during the hypnotic portion. Every session is designed around each individual and the style of both portions, cognitive and hypnotic, will be conducted based on the client's wants, needs, spiritual and intellectual preferences. The very first session is 15 minutes longer due to testing needs. During the first session we administer a series of verbal & non-verbal tests to deduce subconscious functionality of each client so that the therapeutic strategy will be tailored for the individual's highest success rate.

HOW IS HYPNOTHERAPY DIFFERENT THAN REGULAR THERAPY?

Besides the focused element of hypnotic induction, hypnotherapy differs with traditional talk therapy in many different ways. First and foremost, hypnotherapy works with both executive and autonomic function (conscious & subconscious) together every session so that both venting and re-education mental processes are activated in the mind simultaneously. This provides a foundation for swift and lasting change with adequate reinforcement. Traditional talk therapy addresses the conscious and subconscious mind independently, thus rarely bridging the gap of internal misunderstanding without years of work. Secondly, hypnotherapy by design is to seek out the root issue through deeper individualized understanding. Although sessions may begin symptomatically focused, treatment plans are administered with an end goal in sight. Traditional therapy is based on the medical treatment model and is addressed either physiologically or symptomatically.  Because of this, the goal is usually to identify underlying mental illness or maintain illness symptoms whereby medication is often used. In the case where diagnosis cannot be established, the direction or goal of therapy falls entirely on the client's shoulders or defaults to general maintenance.

WHAT IF I CANNOT BE HYPNOTIZED... HOW DO YOU KNOW IT WILL WORK?

Hypnosis is natural and a normal state that can be achieved by anyone. It's really not about whether or not you can be hypnotized, but rather if it is a good tool for you to achieve your goal. What is unique about our credentials at Nirvana Hypnose is the extensive training through HMI College of Hypnotherapy. "Dr. John G. Kappas (1925-2002), founder of the Hypnosis Motivation Institute [HMI], unknowingly distinguished himself as the father of Hypnotherapy [by naming it] as a distinct and separate profession when, with the help of the AFL/CIO International Union, he authored the definition of ‘Hypnotist’ and ‘Hypnotherapist’ for the Federal Dictionary of Occupational Titles" (079.157-010) published by the Department of Labor in 1973. HMI, the first nationally accredited institute of its kind was founded in 1968 and is a wellspring of knowledge regarding subconscious functionality and applied research thereof. What is unique about the Kappasian model of hypnotherapy is how it approaches the subconscious evaluation from two directions: input and output. Testing is conducted to identify where the client falls on a scale for both elements of functionality. Working with this information in tandem crystalizes a tangible construct to base navigating each individual's subconscious. With the right approach anyone can achieve hypnosis.
